MasterCard Empowers Businesses to Make a Global Impact

winnerThe Priceless Elevator made its third appearance of the year on June 11 and 12th. This time it was at the Northside Festival – Brooklyn’s most innovative festival, with over 100,000 attendees each year – celebrating what’s next in music, film, and innovation with more than 400 brands, 150 innovation speakers and 50 films over the course of one week.

Entrepreneurs stepped inside the Priceless Elevator to pitch their business or business idea. Once inside, they had 60 seconds to deliver a Priceless Pitch in the hopes of winning $15,000. After two full days and 158 pitches, a panel of judges met to determine the grand prize winner.

Christine Souffrant, founder of Vendedy took home the $15,000 prize. Vendedy is a social enterprise start-up that is digitising the street vending industry via mobile technology. This social enterprise start-up connects global travelers to local street artisans in the developing world. Artisans on their platform upload their work via a mobile phone application, allowing global travelers to purchase from vendors using SMS. Christine Souffrant, hails from a long line of female street vendors from Haiti. After tracking the stories of street vendors across 30 countries on a Bill Gates Scholarship, she left a career in banking to launch Vendedy. She believes that disruptive technology could empower the street vending industry and alleviate poverty.
