Technology comes to the rescue of SMEs

Global companies such as Mastercard and Microsoft, in cooperation with the Inter-American Development Bank, have created technological platforms to boost the recovery of micro, small and medium-sized companies in the Caribbean after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

First, Mastercard presented its Digital Acceleration Platform, a source of resources for small entrepreneurs looking to expand their business in the digital world.

In general terms, the platform provides MSMEs with a way to expand their online presence, protect their digital operations and adapt themselves to the new business environment.

Furthermore, to help these production units to protect their daily operations while migrating to the online world, Mastercard launched, through its RiskRecon company, a series of cybersecurity evaluations for free until December 31, 2020.

Through the use of safe and non-invasive techniques, the virtual tool allows companies to assess and manage their business cybersecurity. Among the benefits of doing an evaluation with RiskRecon are:

On the other hand, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Everis NTT Data and Microsoft have also joined forces to provide, immediately, digital solutions to governments in Latin America and the Caribbean through the Digi/Gob platform, which will ensure the continuity of administrative procedures during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This alternative, which is an entirely cloud-based development, allows digital transactions to be carried out and personal interactions to be eliminated both in administrative areas and in customer service, giving an option to both individuals and companies to request, for example, government procedures through an online kiosk while public service personnel, on their part, can complete the process from their homes.
